You're part of experiences that has been lost for decades, true meaning of what we're eating and why we're eating.
You must have lots of questions, and hope these will help you. Otherwise always feel free to reach out and find out more.
Fruits & Vegetables
Where are they from?
Study by University of Otago in 2014, there's 122,000 tonnes foodwaste that still edible which is $872m each year. That can feed people in Dunedin for two years and provide free lunch to all school kids in New Zealand for 3 years.
The part foodloss that we're rescue never has been counted and generally speaking 40% of total production is never get to leave the farm, never get into anywhere but waste, compost and landfills.
We work closely with local growers, auction places and packhouses in New Zealand.
Sometimes you also get chance to save import friends as well.
Why they been wasted?
Very good question, they shouldn't. That's why I founded this company to give people an option to choose.
There're market standards for these fresh fruits and veggies, Tag1 and Tag2 are the ones accepted on current mainstream market. During lockdown Level 2, only Tag1 is acceptance.
50% of you saved are from local farm, those has been rejected by many reasons and most of them never get to harvest stage. Some are rejected at post harvest, normally these will go to compost, waste or landfills. According to UN, prior enter the commercial market is the Food Loss and managed by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)
Another 50% are the Food Waste during supply chain activities.
Why my pears has bruise?
It could happens sometimes, however we're trying to make sure you have right amount knowledge to get these in good to use. Once fruits are perfect ripen, they're very dedicated and easy to get bruises on their skin. They might not taste like before by eat normal way, however we could be creative to get them in good use, if still not an option then ultimate way to compost them and give it back to where it from - 'soil'
We're happy to know how you deal with these special cases, share on Facebook, Instagram and message us, we'll thank you for doing so with surprises.
Is there organic option?
There'll be, as we're continue to have conversations with local growers and trying to make our foodprints within the agriculture sections. Not only organic, also more exciting regeneration farms are coming to you. If you not sure what's regeneration farms, watch documentary show called "Kiss the Ground" on Netflix.
It's the ultimate solution to solve global warming, and the only native way that our ancestors has been doing millions years already.
